I don’t watch football but I love her! Not only is she the Queen, she is also a marketing genius who backs her genius up with strategy and hard work. Beyonce is a laser beam. Focused. Confident. Committed.
Let’s talk about her Sales Funnel and Launch:
Phase 1: The release of Formation video, a brand new song with well crafted video that had the internet going wild. In the internet world it would be called a Freebie.
Phase 2: Performs and draws a huge crowd at the Superbowl in front of 100 million people
Phase 3: Announces The Formation Tour the same day after being in front of the 100 million people.
Was all of that on accident? Heck no, that took months of planning and strategy. I bet that she and her team worked 9 months to plan all of that out.
Every event flowed into each other, every costume, the launch of the song, all perfectly synched to make a HUGE impact to sell into her concert.
Like her or not, she is a genius with a very strategic marketing funnel.
How can you apply Beyonce’s strategy to your business? Simply follow these steps below:
Set a goal with enough time to plan it out.
Don’t be a disco ball throwing out lots of light but not hitting your target. Be a laser. Get focused. Many beauty entrepreneurs move quickly from one thing to the other and never staying committed or focused on one single goal, niche or idea until success. Not completion but success.
Create a launch funnel.
Beyonce knew ahead of time that she was going to do the Superbowl. I am assuming that she knew enough to say:
Video launch => into Superbowl => concert announcement
All huge undertaking but all of those opportunities were maximized to their full potential in order to make her concert tour a success.
What does that look like for a beauty business brand?
Let’s walk through an example funnel together.
Goal is to sell out in day 1 at an event (could be virtual or a trade show)
- Seed your social media channels (Instagram, FB, Twitter, Snapchat) with relevant content
- Seed the internet with influencers – bloggers, Youtube, etc.
- Start building relationship with your followers by interacting with them and inviting them to your event
- Offer a video series, challenge, giveaways, etc.
- If it’s an event – make the announcement way ahead of time – 2-3 weeks and show sneak peeks and behind the scene images (video)
- Big day announcement
- Show up: Show up like Queen Bee and be prepared to bring your best.
- Follow up: Have a way to keep in touch with those who attend.
- And repeat.
In today’s world I think innovation, consistent messaging and contact are the secret keys for Beauty Brands to succeed.
But so is focus. Beyonce had to focus and work hard to keep on track and stay on schedule. I am sure that she had some amazing work, family and opportunities come her way (she is the Queen after all).
But if it doesn’t fit into the launching funnel I bet that she said no.
Saying no and keeping on task is how you become a laser beam. By giving yourself enough single beamed focus, you give your brand a chance to succeed.
